TURAS CHONAMARA- THE MAP
The Turas Ghaeltacht Chonamara digital and audio map documents the rich Irish language music, oral and literary culture of the Conamara Gaeltacht, and its unique sense of place. It is being created through a large-scale community mapping project, with contributors from Carna to Cois Fharraige. The information presented is selected and contributed by members of the community.
Download the map as an app, listen to local voices sharing hidden treasures, and discover places through the stories, songs and music which sprang from them. The map is in Irish, the language of the Gaeltacht community, with French and English translations.
The map is being released in sections over the year, starting with an Cheathrú Rua. We are collecting material, and working with local communities to populate their map sections.
The map is available to view in a choice of formats.
You can browse the map on the Turas Chonamara website on a mobile or desktop device. Alternatively, you can download and install the Turas Ghaeltacht Chonamara app to your mobile device.
Please note that a map is not an invitation onto property. If visiting the area, do not trespass onto private property. Take due care when on roads or rough terrain. Leave no trace.
